A Wall of Love

Last year when I came home from a Girls’ Crafting Retreat I found this – A Magnet Wall made for me by my husband and children!!  We use this wall to show recent pictures of family members and loved ones and to keep track of a few things!!  I love that my husband did this for me!!

IMG_6489The wood for the border matches the other painted wall of our kitchen and it took three sheets of metal to cover this area.

This happened over a year ago but I am posting about it now because I want to link up over at AmeroonieDesigns.blogspot.com for their Point of Review Reveal – WALLS!  Maybe you could come check it out and see what other people are doing to their walls!

I have come up with 10 more projects from this paper and I will be showing them to you 5 at a time in this post and then one more post after that!  I am so very excited with the response I had to my very first giveaway – the prize is all packaged and ready to deliver to the winner!  I am going to offer another giveaway this week but I am going to shorten the comment time but more details on that at the end of this post.   All right, now for the projects:

Take # 6 –  Butterfly Thank you Chocolate Pouch

This notebook paper mini bag from Pebbles in My Pocket is the perfect size for a flat, square Ghirardelli chocolate. All it took to cute this up was the butterfly thank you square, a couple of Doodlebug brads, matching paper scraps from the Sunny Side paper collection and a mini clothespin - also purchased at Pebbles!

Take # 7 – “Smile, It’s a Good day” treat scoop

Here's the "scoop" on this fun treat - I got matching colored sixlets from Zurchers and put them into a clear acrylic scoop that went inside a 3 by 5 cello bag. Using the "good day" square and the smile banner I "cuted" this treat right up! The back side of the square card features a pink background where I can write a note to let someone know that I hope they have a good day! The smile banner was taped to the handle of the scoop with double stick tape! The scoop itself was a great Dollar Store find!

Take # 8 – “hi, miss you” card

Oh this card, what fun it was to create! I used The Hi banner and the miss you square, my scallop edge punch and a stick pin from My Mind's Eye and a couple of well placed Doodlebug pearls. The card itself came from a 50 pack of premade cards w/envelopes by Paper Studio from Hobby Lobby. The blue square is mounted on the card with mounting tape so that the sharp end of the stick pin would be absorbed by it.

Take # 9 – 4 Pennant Hello card

Using a premade Kraft card from a package I found at Hobby Lobby by Paper Studio this card was a cinch to make!! I took the 4 banner pieces that were the same size and sewed them onto the card with my sewing machine and then I added the green hello pennant! How cute and simple was that?!?

Take # 10 – “Thanks a Bunch” Kraft Treat sack

This simple flat kraft bag became a real beauty when I added a die cut bow, a Doodlebug brad, and a doily with the Thanks a bunch square. The bag could have any kind of treat placed in it but I have tried it out and found that 2 flat square Ghirardelli chocolates fit side by side just perfectly. I layered the square on the same Sunny Side paper that the bow was diecut from. I got the diecut and the doily from Pebbles in my Pocket!

Well, there you go – 5 more Takes using the From Me to You page of the Sunny Side Collection by Pebbles, Inc.  Yes, I know each Take has added things to it besides just the paper piece but that is what I found so fun – using one, two or even a few pieces as a place to start creating!  I hope this has inspired you and helped you realize that a handmade item can start with one cute thing and then be added upon to make it something  completely creative and beautiful!!  But the best part for me in making these is that now I have 5 things that I can use to shower love and care on loved ones!  And you can too if you enter my giveaway!!

Sunny Side: From Me to You Projects – Takes 1 to 5 {Giveaway Alert}

While shopping in Pebbles in my Pocket the other day during the Pebbles, Inc new logo launch I found this amazing piece of 12 by 12 paper.   As I thought of the many possibilities it had I decided to challenge myself to cut it apart and use it to create as many cute items as possible.  This blog entry showcases my Takes 1 to 5.  So far I have had a lot of fun creating and using this paper.  I also have used some of the border stickers from the same collection – Sunny Side.

While Mom is away – a “love-note” for each day

Once a year a cute, fun group of my friends and I go on a Retreat.  On this retreat every one brings projects/crafts etc. to work on.  We laugh, we eat good food, we get some things done and in general just take a time out.  For this post I wanted to share the tradition that I have of leaving love/treat notes for my family when I go on a retreat like this or some other trip.  For some reason I have always enjoyed playing on words.  Over the years I have come up with many a “corny” saying to put on a love note or what I call a “treat” note.  In this post I will share with you the 4 notes that I left for my family to find – one each day for the time I was gone!

You will find below 2 pictures for each days note.  The caption under each picture of a single item tells what the “Treat” note said.  Under the second picture the text  just gives you a time frame of when my family received that note!  I was gone from Wednesday at 1 pm until Saturday at 12 pm.  The first days notes were left out for after dinner.  The other days notes were put by my husband’s bed which is where our family gathers nightly for family prayer.  The treats were bagged up and the bags were labeled with which day the treat should be received.  Then the work was left to my husband to make sure they got passed out to the children.

This tradition is one that my children love and enjoy.  I find myself stretching to come up with new treats and new sayings that I haven’t used before – I am not always able to do 100% original ones but I do try.   Take a minute and think of a “treat” note you could give to a loved one and do it today or tomorrow would be ok! 🙂 Just as long as you find an excuse to share your love through a note soon!!

Hope your day is just "peachy"!

A Thank You Favor

Thank you favor for Oct 2012 PTA meeting

When I was the PTA President at our elementary school I liked to provide some kind of treat/favor for the fine folks who took time out of their busy schedules to attend one of our meetings!  Sometimes I just had chocolates wrapped in school colors laid out on the tables.  But other times I was a bit more organized and provided a “thank you favor” at each person’s place along with a copy of the agenda and a pen or pencil.

Shown here are two examples of “thank you favors” given at a couple of said meetings.  The top one has a dum-dum sucker with this note attached: I’m no “Dum-Dum” I know you have other places you could be.  What a “treat” that you’re here!  Thanks!!

The second one, shown below, consists of a mini sack that looks like notebook paper “cute”d up with our school colors and a Bengal “paw”!  It reads – We are “paws”itively thrilled that you are here! Thanks!  I filled the bag with some of the aforementioned chocolate wrapped in blue & gold (our school colors)!  I sincerely hope that the recipients enjoyed their favors as much as I enjoyed making them!

Sometimes a little effort can go a long way towards making someone feel Thanked & Special! And, well, anyway, CUTE matters, so CUTE is what I strive for! How about you think about what you strive for or what you want to share with the world – Then go forth, make a little effort and SHARE!!

Thank you favor at one of last PTA meetings of 2013.

Sending a card is Fun to Do!

This card was done using non traditional colors with a valentine heart set and changing up the sentiment. Love this color combo!

One of the things that puts a smile on my face is putting a smile on someone else’s face.  And the way I do that, you ask? Well, I create a card, write a simple and sincere sentiment inside, and mail it off to some lucky person’s mailbox.  I don’t know about you but I love getting something in the mail that is just for me! (And that is not a bill or junk!) This particular card was sent to thank someone for a totally cool package I had received from them.  If you think about it for just a minute or two, I know you can come up with someone who you can jot a note to.  The card does not have to be handmade – just send a cheery thought of love and/or praise to someone today.  You’ll be so glad you did!!

As a side note, I really want to learn my way around wordpress better so I can be what my husband refers to as a blogger extraordinaire!  Please be patient as I figure out how to  go about bettering my blog and growing my bloggership!! Thanks so much! Oh, and if you can’t leave me a comment here for some reason then put it on my facebook – I’ll see it there!

My Big Book of Everything

I don’t know about you but I am always making lists on this scratch piece of paper or that receipt.  I was frustrated by this so I decided to make a book to keep all my lists in.  Here is what I came up with.  I used the Fruit Stand collection of my favorite company Doodlebug to cute up a composition notebook.

I have since just started to make lists in it and I have achieved success in keeping all my lists together!!
